Firmament takes a backward view of planet Earth from space. Our precious planet as we remember it. I could not help but wonder if this view is from light years away...that I am viewing the Earth in its infancy, before humans.

It’s a row of books.  It’s a sculpture! It is an investigation of color!

This multipart wall sculpture reflects the foredges of closed books, holding knowledge safely between hard covers.  It is questionable whether, in this case, this knowledge can be accessed.  These objects are clamped tightly shut.

An interesting note is that each object has the same three colors of thread, with the same color numbers and dye-lots:  Royal blue, turquoise and golden yellow. The changes in color perception are caused by the changes in the substrate.  Each object is stitched on a different color of fabric.

Hang them in whatever order  you choose.  Each has a small cleat for secure hanging.

Chroma= the purity or intensity of color. YUM!  I keep experimenting and reveling in the reflective threads and the effects of folds and curves.  Sometimes I think I could work with this design forever, simply changing the colors, the fabric and the way it is folded.  The permutations seem limitless.

Chromatic Wave 2 is a three-dimensional wall work...a rainbow of colors curl and sway across the wall. The colors present in new ways as the light of the day changes.

2020 was a wild year : pandemic, politics, civic disruption, seasonal anomalies.. Now wonder I wanted to escape!

Blue, orange and red...really?  Just three colors of thread combined to make this richly glowing, coppery hued relief!

When I began this artwork, I though, perhaps, that it might become a mobius floor sculpture : an accordion without end.  But like 2020, I found I wanted an end.

With the unique characteristics of tri-lobal embroidery thread, angles, combinations and viewing position make all the difference in the color perception.  It's almost sci-fi!  So, maybe that is why I needed to title this ESCAPE CAPSULE!
