This piece is part of a series called "Skin". I am thinking about skin and how it’s a boundary between humans and our environment. The organic delicate paper forms a skin-like surface while the hard structures relate to architecture or the skeleton. An interesting tension is created when the soft paper hugs the hard form. I try to combine hard and soft elements into much of my work as this duality is present everywhere including our bodies, and our physical surroundings, both of which are areas of fascination for me.

Gatherer

Using simple folds and cuts, I explore transforming flat hard surfaces into objects that have volume and a sense of interior and exterior. The negative spaces that the bends and cutouts create are an essential part of the work. The sculptures can be oriented in different ways and change when viewed from different angles. The interactive quality connects to our relationship with the objects we live with and the spaces we inhabit.

Fold 2

This work is about freedom and simplicity. Free from walls and floor, a tap or breeze activates the

sculpture to move and change. The simple act of connecting lines turns a void into shapes dancing in space. Giving viewers the opportunity to experience objects from different perspectives has become an important part of my work.
