The beauty of Syntax

The National Institute of Genomic Medicine of Mexico and Bioescénica commissioned me to work with my Mitochondrial DNA to produce a piece reflecting on one's ancient group of people from whom one's matrilineage descends and our mtDNA haplogroup. 

  
After receiving that eye-opening information, I decided to research and study the whole year garment confection. I learned to sew, weave, and embroider, immersing myself in the knowledge of ancient technologies such as 'Nahua' Mexican back strap loom, Mesoamerican embroidery, and Precolumbian textile semiotics as an homage to my matrilineal ancestors. 

  
My vocal performance was one of the main inaugural acts of the exhibition entitled "MITOCHONDRIA / Immersion in the maternal lineage."

Textiles are Vital Matter to the soul. Textiles are scores for vocal channeling in cultures such as the Shipibo weavers of the Peruvian Amazon. 

This was my humble textile offering to my mitochondrial ancestors.

The Human Swarm

Who is the "artificial" intelligence and who is the "real" intelligence behind the creation and training of AI future and human present?

"The hypothetical point in time at which technological growth becomes uncontrollable and irreversible, resulting in unforeseeable changes to human civilization"(*)  has arrived. 

"The idea that human history is approaching a “singularity”—that ordinary humans will someday be overtaken by artificially intelligent machines or cognitively enhanced biological intelligence, or both—has moved from the realm of science fiction to serious debate. Some singularity theorists predict that if the field of artificial intelligence (AI) continues to develop at its current dizzying rate, the singularity could come about in the middle of the present century.."

So what is what we really are learning about while feeding its boom?, because AI has a critical side that probably we are not seeing yet. 

The project of Technological Singularity developing Human Swarm Portraits, started as a scultoric syntax phantasy merging bodies while imagining us as a whole, where  the sense of the termite mound° is more important than the termites themselves for their survival- as a simple reminder of  solidarity in times of climate crisis, versus technological love seducing us , and distracting us as a escape of reality and a hybrid prosthesis of  inanimate digitallity, as well as the fictional metaphor of  multispecies understanding without taking real action.

Technological Singularity


In search of identity and creativity,  artificiality is more and more present via our digital prosthesis and daily addictive habits provided by AI bots, filters and trends of  creative generative automatization tools where everybody with a cellphone or a computer has access to add some makeup to reality. 

I'm currently interested in the generation of hybrid portraits through deep analysis of syntax where the creative matter is language - instead of physical materials or "traditional" computer 3D art techniques as in "the past"-, trying to bring to the world of  representation "highly detailed, highly realistic, futuristic images" (E.g. prompt AI style) , as if they were rendered with video games technologies; and at the same time speculating in our absolute failure with multispecies coexistence and the current state of climate crisis in the Planet -, how would the human hybrids of the future as already evolved multispecies survivors could look?

How to calibrate the frame rate of Reality? How to deal with new technologies in a way creativity injects new possibilities instead of recursing mimesis while just copying or reinterpreting Reality? Inspired by Timothy Morton's concept of 'Dark Ecology' and Ernst Haeckel's Kunstformen der Natur, ˈʊmˌvɛltn̩  (Umwelten),  is a virtual reality  interactive composition and interface commissioned by Konzerthaus Berlin. The Oculus Quest app can be performed for real in 400 square meters to get the more of its stunning interactivity but it's also scalable to smaller spaces.  Hands, body position and height, head and ears define and control the 3D/spatial sound interaction with VR collisions triggering exponential databases. 

ˈʊmˌvɛltn̩  is compound by more than 200 aural-haptic 3D organisms — including around 100 different types of interactions —, and  the sound is  determined solely by physical/spatial interactions with  a broad palette of expressive possibilities inside the physical space from virtuality.  

"All what we have done to the (VR) environment reflects directly into music."  
ˈʊmˌvɛltn̩ interface focuses on the physicality of sound inside extended virtual worlds and IRL, as a live performative instrument for contemporary XR concerts working with 3D sound. Each user functions as composer, performer, and contemplative deep listener: Physical motions determine spatialization and dynamics. Thus, ˈʊmˌvɛltn̩ is both a VR/3D sampler and an extended virtual/physical space controlled by the performer's body as a living score navigating through a rich sensory terrain of somatic —aural, visual, and haptic— spatial composition for more expressive VR performances.
