About

Julian Bonequi began his career interested in transmedia art while studying Philosophy at UNAM Mexico. After finishing specialized studies in the Master of Video Game Design and the Master of 3D Animation at the Pompeu Fabra University (2006-2009), he collaborated with the Neuroscience and Interactive Technology Groups of the Pompeu Fabra University in Barcelona (SPECS/GTI, 2008-2010. As a New Media Professor, he conducted XR workshops with different Digital Culture Centers, Music Conservatories, Museums, and Universities (2009-2019), as well as performing as a guest performer with orchestras and improvised music ensembles in Madrid, London, Istanbul, Barcelona, Paris, Berlin, and Mexico (2004-2021), such as the London Improvisers Orchestra and the Berlin Improvisers Orchestra.

His focus as an artist and XR technologist hybridizes New Media Phigital Materialities for Interactive Art, focused on the creation of day-to-day interfaces and participatory experiences that help us think through our bodies while channeling ‘haptically embodied cognition’.

Awarded by the Konzerthaus Berlin 'Interactive Composition' competition as a VR Artist and Interaction Designer in 2019. Member of the National System of Art Creators SNCA-FONCA Mexico 2017. Winner of CTM Radio Lab Berlin 2017. Support Program for Research & Production in New Media of the National Center for the Arts CENART Mexico 2016 for his live VR Chamber Opera. In 2021, he premiered XR al Fresco, an interactive augmented reality score and choir for 1,300 voices at the CCD Mexico commissioned by the XRHub Munich.

His work focuses on decolonial aesthetics and interactive-textile interfaces for performing arts.
