This mural was made for a gallery and performance space named Reinraum. The space has three rooms where different types of music are performed. I created wall murals for all three rooms, with each room based on a different type of mathematics. This room was based on the Four Colour Map Theorem. The music groups were allowed to pick which mural suited their music.

This mural was made for a gallery and performance space named Reinraum.  The space has three rooms where different types of music are performed. Choose Your Own Adventure - #2

This room size mural was made for an exhibition in the gallery, HilberRaum. The name HilbertRaum comes from a math concept called Hlibert Space.  The mural was made over three weeks and during that time people were invited to come into the gallery and learn about Hilbert Space as they watched me make the mural. I used the wall to draw diagrams much like a math teacher uses a blackboard.

This temporary wall mural is based on game. Each team had a colour, red or blue.  They placed squares and diamond shaped tiles on the wall based on the rules of the game.  The mural grew as the teams played the game, slowly moving out of the gallery an into the whole museum.

Tile/Trial

This temporary wall mural was designed with my students and was made in a hallway leading in the Katzen Museum in Washington, DC.  The students were learning about one point perspective and two point perspective when someone asked if there was such a thing as zero point perspective. We decided there was, so my students and I created this mural to demonstrate what zero point perspective looks like.

Omnipol

this installation uses 3 bungee cords to create a frame around a large drawing of a couple kissing. The arrangement of the cords spans the gallery space uses a one dimensional line to create a three dimensional space. The installation reminds us that there is always a human side to consider when we think about mathematics and science.

Infinity in a Finite Space

This wall mural is based on a problem in mathematics called The Travelling Salesman Problem.  The mural looks only partly finished to signify that the problem never reaches a fixed solution - it simply goes on forever.

Alternate Root

This outdoor wall installation was made during the COVID lockdown in 2020. It consisted of a series of frames that highlighted aspects of the graffiti that already exited on the walls.  A display window on the wall was converted into a video screen where invited artists from all over the world shared videos that were based on the place where they were living during the lockdown.  The goal of the project was to give people art to see from all over the world and while also highlighting our common experience during the lockdown.

Alone Together

This painting is a visual exploration at a mathematical problem called the 4 Colour Map Theorem.  This theorem states that any map can be coloured using only 4 colours.  Mathematicians know the theorem is true but how it works is still a mystery.  This project is my attempt to solve that mystery.
