From my balcony I watch the pastures below. Tree shadows stretch and dissipate, marking the passage of time. Their direction changes with each season as the earth makes its way around the sun. The unbreakable link is revealed. Light and its absence. Like a swinging pendulum this link is apparent throughout our life cycles. Moments of joy and sorrow, hope and despair, luck and misfortune, life and death. 

  
Planets are discovered when they pass in front of their stars, and at that moment, a shadow moving at the speed of light travels towards earth. Upon its arrival, a new planet is detected. In this work the elongated shards represent this magnificent speed and it also reminds me that wherever I am, tree shadows will be forming, stretching and disappearing on the pastures below, ever marking the passage of time.

"Com a Luz vem a Sombra" (With Light comes Shadow)

Represents destruction and rebirth. Two antagonistic forces spinning around a common axis. The omen of an inevitable future and the pains of reconstruction. It is the epicenter of a new era which drives individual and collective change.

Throughout history, powerful civilizations rise only to disappear. As the lessons of our ancestors are drowned by our hunger for money - and the power it imparts - our unsustainable development steers our civilization towards the next major collapse.
