FEMME AU CHAPEAU ROSE À LA DÉRIVE (WOMAN WITH PINK HAT DRIFTING) is part of the DRIFTS DRIFTING PHASE II installation project which is currently on progress. The installation proposes a questioning of human and artistic drift, a theme that Anne-Marie Giroux has been exploring since 2014\. Taking a critical and mocking approach on the relevance of the very essence of the art object, the artist also questions the relevance of being an artist and most specifically, the relevance of being a woman artist. Composed of three-dimensional works developed with traditional mediums and recycled materials, the installation will be presented as a still life, fragmented with multiple « self-portraits » of the artist and her art, adrift. The project will be presented publicly for the first time at Espace PRODUIT RIEN in April 2023 in Montréal (Québec) Canada.

The installation project DÉRIVES À LA DÉRIVE PHASE II proposes a questioning of human and artistic drift, a theme that Anne-Marie Giroux has been exploring since 2014\. Posing both a critical and mocking look at the relevance of the very essence of the object in art, Giroux also questions the relevance of being an artist and particularly the relevance of being a woman artist.

It was during the Covid-19 confinement of 2020 that the artist began the creation of the installation DÉRIVES À LA DÉRIVE PHASE II. One of the particularities of the project comes from a desire to push further the practices of painting and sculpture. Over a period of three months, she challenged herself to compose with the material surrounding her in her studio, whether it be with the fragments of oil paint that had dried and accumulated, the plaster and cement created for previous projects, or the materials and objects that had piled up in the studio; “debris” that, over the years, had become the physical material of her artistic practice. In December 2020, during the second confinement, she also took advantage of an artist’s residency, at the Galerie ERGA in Montréal, allowing her to refine the work and experiment in situ.

Composed of a corpus of works elaborated with traditional media as well as found and recycled materials, the installation is presented as a three-dimensional still life, invoking the echo of a fragmented memory of multiple "self-portraits" of the artist and her art, adrift. A setting in space poetic and minimalist, appealing to what has existed and what still exists, but which is becoming more fragile.

FEMME AU CHAPEAU ROSE À LA DÉRIVE

FRAGMENTS is a project within a project. In July 2022, Anne-Marie Giroux was presenting her first international solo exhibition at CICA Museum in South Korea. For this exhibition, entitled FRAGMENTS, the artist elaborated a series of digital photographic studies revealing fragments of her most recent work, the installation project DRIFTS DRIFTING PHASE II. One of the particularities of this project comes from a process in which the artist works with oil and other materials in a three-dimensional way, like a raw material specific to sculpture. The ensemble proposes a poetry of colors, forms and combinations that manifest themselves through the particular relationship that Anne-Marie Giroux seeks to establish between the practices of painting, sculpture and installation.
