A Night in Wonderland

This is an ink drawing of a tortoise with a castle on his back making his way through the forest under the watchful eyes of its many residents. Executed in pens and markers on watercolour paper.

Passing Through

This is an ink drawing depicting a lazy man on a couch, eating cake and watching tv.  This is symbolic of the people of modern society for whom our ancestors worked so hard and made many sacrifices so that their children and grandchildren and all of their legacy would have a better life.  I don't think they would be too excited to see how lazy and entitled we have become, thus depicted by the crying phoenix in the corner, a symbol of the risen spirit of the ancestors.  This is countered by the hissing serpent which holds the dollar sign in his tail and the spider that is weaving a web of the lies we tell, both to ourselves and to others.  The flowers surrounding the work are 'forget-me-nots' asking us to think of the people that went before us and all that they have done and suffered on our behalf.  The banners in the front represent some of the civilizations to which our ancestors may have derived, including Roman, Egyptian, Asian, Celtic, Viking etc.

Built on the Backs of Our Ancestors

This is an ink drawing of a scene of Mayan warriors in a jungle forest with an erupting volcano spewing red lava in the background, and a colonial explorer caught up in the hostilities.  The sun is based on the artworks of the Mayan / Aztec calendar and it is looking down on the scene in awe.  The work has been executed in technical pen, promarker, and acrylic inks on watercolor paper.

Survive!

This is an ink drawing of a mermaid in a fantasy underwater world full of fish, plants, and other hidden secrets.  There is a lot to look at as you dive deeper and deeper into the blue pool.  This work was executed in blue permanent ink on watercolour paper and measures 61x61cm 

The Blue Pool

This artwork was inspired by recent research into African history and medieval kings.  Mansa Musa was a very progressive and positive king who brought about great improvements for his people.  He was also one of the wealthiest kings in the world at that time, ruling over what is today known as the country of Mali. This portrait was executed in ink, technical pens, Promarker and gold markers on 140lb watercolour paper.
