The works shown here are part of an ongoing video project, "Sides", by collaborators Curtis Ames + Candice Greathouse. These works use a passive gaze to explore "the point or position at an equal distance from the sides, edges, or ends of something", the middle, the dividing line of communication. Using phone cameras to record the left and right sides of passenger travel, the footage documents the intersection of opposite points of view. The two screens are merged and in dialogue with one and another. As audio and visual elements fall in and out of sync, moments of separation and reconciliation mirror the complexities of interpersonal relationships. 

Candice Greathouse (b 1984 Columbus, GA) and Curtis Ames (b 1978 Columbus, OH) are visual artists based in Los Angeles, CA. Their video, installation, and performance works explore the common ground between their respective backgrounds in photography and painting. The artists maintain individual practices in addition to their collaborations.
