PERSONAL PHOTOGRAPHY

A collection of portraits of Londoners with Polish roots that are prominent figures in London’s creative were exhibited at the Museum of London in 2009.
  
London Creatives: Polish Roots, was presented by the Polish Cultural Institute in partnership with the Museum of London, honours Londoners of Polish origins who, as leaders in their field, have actively played a part in London’s vibrant cultural scene and asks how their Polish roots have shaped and affected their careers in London.

The display included portraits from a wide spectrum of backgrounds and artistic disciplines including Adam Ficek (musician and drummer with Babyshambles), Andrew Czezowski (co-founder of The Fridge and The Roxy), and Iwona Blazwick, (Director at London's Whitechapel Gallery) as well as Polish film directors, architects, artists, journalists, costume designers and poets.

Accompanying the black & white portraits was video interviews with several of the subjects.  The interviews gave a rare insight into how it feels to be a Londoner with Polish heritage.  

The project was conceived by the young Polish photographer Grzegorz Lepiarz and Anna Tryc-Bromley, Deputy Director at The Polish Cultural Institute in London and the filmmaker Bartek Dziadosz.

'We live in a world which no longer questions itself, which lives from one day to another managing successive crises, without knowing where it is going and without trying to plan the itinerary'. 
	
How accurate description of the global state of affairs these words are we only realize now, in 2011, twelve years after they were written in Zygmunt Bauman's In search of politics. Emeritus Professor of Sociology at the University of Leeds, Polish Jew, an extraordinarily prolific scholar in political theory, philosophy, ethics, art history -  Zygmunt Bauman is a unique figure in a great many respects. His life story would be enough to make a subject of an epic-sized documentary. But on top of everything else Zygmunt Bauman is simply a very wise man. 'Late flowering' is a phrase which best describes the period when he retired from academic work in 1990 and started to publish books almost annually. This incessant flow of ideas concerning subjects ranging from East Enders to Eastern European philosophy continues to this day. Unsurprisingly, Bauman's insights into the pitfalls of globalisation and consumerism have always drawn attention of crowds far exceeding typical academic audience.

This film is a bold attempt at making a provocative, and yet informed diagnosis of the modern uncertainty. We are looking for parallels between Bauman's personal life and his concepts of society and we aim at putting them in the context of our shared European, turbulent history. Over the course of six months we followed Zygmunt Bauman in his academic trips to Lithuania, Spain, Austria, Slovakia, Germany and Poland. What emerged as a result is a unique collection of footage including Bauman's lectures, panel discussions, award ceremonies, but also informal interviews and very personal reflections filmed during walks in the stunning European locations. We've met his friends, collaborators, daughters and the grandson. This core structure of the film is intertwined with interviews with major figures in the field of sociology, politics and philosophy, such as George Ritzer, Neal Lawson, Andrew Simms, Cezary Wodzinski and Albert-László Barabási. In a sense this film is a 'road movie'. It is a highly visual, avoiding conventional 'talking heads' journey through Bauman's life and our anxieties. As the story unfolds, we start to realise that there is a dark side to our contemporary society, which we might never expected to see.

“Portraits of Zygmunt Bauman”

Within the last two years, Grzegorz Lepiarz travelled to Leeds to visit Zygmunt Bauman’s house, crammed with books and pot flowers and filled with pipe smoke aroma. Grzegorz felt fascinated with the professor and his work. During stirring discussions over the cup of his delicious coffee, Bauman raised important and disturbing questions, encouraging his young guest to find his own answers. For the photographer these meetings became not only interesting visits paid to one of the most praised sociologist of this day, but also real expeditions to previously unknown territories – lands of intriguing thoughts, wise observations and daring attempts to describe and explain driving mechanisms of contemporary society.

It was during these expeditions that the unique series of portraits presented to you today came into being. They were taken with respect, admiration and devotion. But they truly originated from the feeling of awakening, from excitement accompanying the discovery of new, vast and previously unknown lands. And Zygmunt Bauman is a guide on this everlasting, fascinating but demanding journey. Or maybe, with his thoughtful gaze and his meaningful gestures, he is a fellow traveler looking for company on his excursions…

Professor Zygmunt Bauman - In Portraits

I am available for commissions.

 I am particularly interested in peeling away layers of reality; the compositions that people project around
themselves every day. 
Particularly in the creative fields of music and visual arts, the branding of the person, their 'image', becomes an integral part of their life. I work in a space where I can capture the essence of a person's individuality, within the soulful moments of their silence. I believe that these moments, the ones behind the glamour, are the portraits worth registering.


I offer very personal approach to photography and I always push myself to produce work with strong identity and different styles but my own styles.

For last 9 years I was in living in London as working as a portrait press photographer taking photographs of well known people.

Throughout those years I have done several testing shots for model agencies in London. Most of them have been used to help models improve their books and get more paid assignments. 
My work was published in numerous newspapers. Recently I moved to Berlin.
