Recognizing the impact that travel can have on an artist’s career, the Dorothy Antoinette LaSelle Foundation has established the Dorothy Antoinette LaSelle Travel Fellowship. In the fall of 2024, the inaugural year for the Fellowship, two awards of $5,000 each will be distributed to artists working and residing in the state of Texas, enabling the recipients to complete a research trip to further their artistic practice.
Dorothy Antoinette “Toni” LaSelle, a pioneer of Modernism in Texas, traveled to Europe in 1927-28, after completing her MA at University of Chicago. She explored the art of England, Italy and France during this trip, which would not have been possible without a “study fund” she was awarded for works included in the First Student Art Exhibition at the Renaissance Society in 1926.
