Overview

The Myma Art Prize (MAP) is a bold new platform celebrating the next generation of visual artists from Ghana and Nigeria. Named in honor of Dr. Myma Belo-Osagie (renowned lawyer, art collector, and patron) and endowed by her children, the prize offers more than funding: it offers a journey.

Each year, MAP will identify and support early to mid-career artists. MAP will provide a virtual artist development program, high-profile group exhibition for finalists, and physical residency in Benin, Nigeria, for the grand prize winner.

Coordinated by Metis Capital Partners and curated by Ugonna Ibe of Yenwa Gallery, the Myma Art Prize is designed for lasting impact. Selections will be made by a rotating panel of artists, curators, and scholars drawn from West Africa and the diaspora, with the aim of launching careers and shaping the future of contemporary African art.

Each application is reviewed by a jury of artists, curators, and collectors using three criteria: conceptual strength, technical execution, and growth potential. Judges look for artists whose work is thoughtful and can meaningfully benefit from the prize’s developmental program. The process is designed to identify not just current talent, but also promise.
