Jester supports emerging and international visual artists to further develop their practice and to experiment with new media in our workshops (wood, metal, ceramics and digital). Through artistic, production and business guidance, Jester encourages these future jesters to question themselves, each other and the world. Just as Genk was known at the beginning of the 20th century as a station d'artistes – a beloved refuge for painters, scientists and writers – Jester welcomes dozens of international artists every year to meet each other and explore the drawn, post-industrial landscape together.
Jester endorses the principles of care, diversity and sustainability. Jester works with artists according to the values of Juist is Juist and provides fair wages for artistic work. Jester recovers, recycles and borrows materials to counteract overproduction and waste in the arts sector. For the selection criteria of artists, Jester makes no distinction between gender, religion, background, nationality or age. In these and many other ways, the arts organisation tries to contribute a little bit to a more inclusive, transparent and solidary sector and world.
When do we receive the residents?
With this open call, Jester is looking for residents who will stay and work at Jester for two months during the next three cycles:
The residency will last a total of five months, divided into three phases, two of which will be devoted to pre-production, two to production (in Jester) and one to post-production.
