THE OPEN CALL
MEDIT.A – Mediterraneo Arte launches Biblioteca Invisibile, an international contemporary art
project that explores the Mediterranean as a shared space of memory, identity, migration, cultural
heritage and exchange.
The project brings together artists from Italy, Africa and the wider Mediterranean, creating a
collective artistic narrative in which different cultures, generations and artistic languages can meet.
The exhibition will take place in Siracusa, Sicily, from June to December 2027, at the Palazzo del
Governo di Siracusa.
THE THEME
Artists are invited to interpret the Mediterranean as a space of relationships, memories and cultural
exchanges.
The central concept is the artist's book, understood not as a traditional publication, but as
an autonomous artwork and narrative device.
We are looking for works that explore, through contemporary artistic languages:
• memory and identity;
• belonging and migration;
• intangible cultural heritage;
• languages and traditions;
• cultural exchange and contamination;
• dialogue between different territories and communities.
WHO CAN APPLY
The Open Call is open to:
• emerging contemporary artists;
• independent artists;
• independent artistic collectives.
Particular attention will be given to artists from Africa, Italy and the wider Mediterranean
region.ARTISTIC LANGUAGES
The following media are accepted:
• painting;
• sculpture;
• photography;
• video art;
• installation;
• new media;
• mixed media;
• experimental practices.
One artwork per artist.
Maximum dimensions for physical artworks: 30 × 30 × 30 cm.
Video works: duration between 3 and 5 minutes.
SELECTION
The artworks will be evaluated by an international jury composed of 7 professionals, including
curators, art historians, critics and cultural professionals.
The selection will consider:
• artistic quality and originality;
• strength of the artistic research;
• conceptual coherence;
• ability to address themes of memory, identity and intercultural dialogue;
• relationship between the artwork and the Mediterranean and African cultural context.
Approximately 22–40 artists will be selected.
PREMIO BIBLIOTECA INVISIBILE
One selected artist will receive the Premio Biblioteca Invisibile.
The prize includes:
A solo exhibition at Leucò Art Gallery ETS in Siracusa, Italy, lasting approximately 30 days.
The Award aims to enhance and internationalise the artist's career and to foster new relationships
within the MEDIT.A cultural network.

Application fee: €35
Shipping costs, customs duties, return and insurance of the artwork are the responsibility of the
selected artist.

MEDIT.A – MEDITERRANEO ARTE
Biblioteca Invisibile is the inaugural project of MEDIT.A – Mediterraneo Arte, an international
programme dedicated to contemporary art, intercultural dialogue and cultural cooperation between
Italy, Africa and the wider Mediterranean.
The project forms part of a long-term process aimed at the creation of a future Museum of the
Mediterranean.
The artwork may be donated by the artist and, in that case, will become part of the permanent
collection of the new MEDIT.A Museum.
