We are thrilled to launch a call for research proposals as a part of our Homelands cycle, inviting artists, architects, researchers, filmmakers, scholars, and multidisciplinary practitioners to submit a research proposal that will be presented at Storefront during the Homelands symposium in early 2027_._ Submissions will also be considered for print publication in the Homelands Reader, co-published with Inventory Press.
Homelands focuses on the political dimensions of memory, through artistic practices that make and remake connections to place. At a moment when questions of territory, sovereignty, and belonging continue to intensify in and beyond the United States, Homelands offers a critical space for reflection. This research cycle also asks audiences to consider memory as both a tool for reclaiming space and a means of asserting or resisting power—shaping, if possible, the understanding of what it means to remember, and to be remembered.
Storefront is committed to determining the successful project through an anonymized review process by a jury of curators, scholars, and leading cultural practitioners. Projects will be evaluated based on the strength and originality of their ideas, the author’s depth of engagement with the subject matter, the clarity and coherence of the writing, and the work’s alignment with Storefront’s broader mission.
