The Perron Art Prize was first awarded in 1981. "As a sign of active support for artists and with the aim of giving impetus to cultural life, the city of Frankenthal (Palatinate) has awarded the Perron Art Prize every two or three years since 1981 , alternating between graphic art, painting, sculpture, and porcelain." 

The Perron Art Prize of the city of Frankenthal (Pfalz) is awarded annually in alternating categories of porcelain, painting, graphics and sculpture, with the prize in the porcelain category determining every other cycle due to its importance for Frankenthal.

The theme for the porcelain category is "Flowerpower" .
