THIRDSPACE is a month-long, in-person summer residency at OCAD University for interdisciplinary emerging artists. The program supports the development of new work through studio access, workshops, mentorship, and peer exchange, culminating in a public exhibition at the OCAD U Graduate Gallery.
The 2026 residency is led by artist and mentor-in-residence Erdem Taşdelen, an internationally recognized artist known for his generous, dialogue-driven approach to mentorship and his ability to support artists at pivotal moments in their practice.
Residency Theme: Staging the Unseen
Artists are invited to explore storytelling beyond convention through text, image, sound, and video. Participants will engage narrative as world-building—challenging dominant stories, revealing hidden perspectives, and opening space for new possibilities.
About the Mentor
Erdem Taşdelen is a Toronto-based artist whose practice explores how narratives are shaped by form through text, image, sound, and installation. His work is grounded in research, curiosity, and close attention to artists’ ideas and processes. He has exhibited widely in Canada and internationally and has extensive experience working with emerging artists through residencies, teaching, and long-term mentorship.
