Program Overview
Our intensive 2-month (8 weeks) online residency creates a collaborative, interconnected environment where international eco-artists can deepen their sustainability-focused practices and broaden their artistic perspectives through constructive dialogue and mutual support. Open to emerging and mid-career visual artists, multidisciplinary artists, curators, and art researchers globally, this program unites creators virtually to engage in meaningful discussion, collaborative work, and creative inspiration that transcends geographical boundaries.
This residency provides dedicated time and space for research, experimentation, and artistic development, culminating in a physical exhibition in London to showcase your work within the vibrant atmosphere of London’s art world.
About IOAEA
Founded in 2021 by Portuguese artist Joana Alarcão, IOAEA is an art organization dedicated to amplifying the voices of artists and designers who drive societal transformation through creative practices. Over the years, it has evolved into a collaborative hub fostering interdisciplinary artistic exploration in sustainability, materiality, and conceptual networks.
What We Provide
Collaborative Weekly Group Sessions with an intimate cohort of 5-10 international artists, fostering meaningful exchange and peer feedback throughout the program.
Weekly Educational Workshops to expand your knowledge of ecological art and sustainability, positioning your practice within the international eco-art community and exploring alternative exhibition models, community engagement strategies, and public art initiatives.
Individual Mentorship Sessions with curator Joana Alarcão, providing weekly one-on-one guidance focusing on conceptual and visual development, plus professional development skills.
Guest Expert Sessions featuring 2 specialized sessions (3rd and 6th week) led by guest curators and sustainability experts, providing valuable feedback and insights from leading voices in art and environmental advocacy.
Physical Exhibition of two days, following program completion, with full curatorial support.
Alumni Network Access to connect with past participants, share opportunities, and receive ongoing professional support within our growing creative community.
Professional Publication featuring all participating artists, with each resident receiving a dedicated page showcasing their statement, bio, and project imagery, plus printed catalogues.
Strategic Promotion Package including a residency profile on the IOAEA website, a comprehensive written interview, and a short introductory video for social media and newsletter distribution.

Program Fee: €500
A fully funded scholarship is available for one exceptional emerging artist (only for emerging artists under 30 or <3 years professional practice) each round. Contact us directly to inquire about eligibility and application requirements.

The exhibition venue is in Central London. Details will be announced following the selection process, ensuring we can accommodate the unique requirements of each cohort's artistic practices and optimize the space for the number of participating artists.
