Ascent Gallery is accepting applications from early career artists and collectives to exhibit.
**About the Gallery
**In 2023, the Ascent Gallery opened on Level 1 of the Etobicoke Civic Centre’s Central Block. Dedicated to early career artists, the Ascent Gallery the gallery welcomes individual artists and/or artist collectives, with a focus on artists who identify as IBPOC, disabled persons and 2SLGBTQIA+.
Artist Responsibilities
The successful artist or group is responsible for any and all costs that are in excess of the granted CARFAC fee; all other costs associated with the exhibition and reception remain the artist’s responsibility.
The successful artist or group is responsible for adhering to the Gallery's Terms of Entry.
Recipient(s) must actively participate in the promotion of the exhibition, the site and the opening reception through their own networks and effort.
Space
The Ascent Gallery is a public gallery space, owned and operated by the City of Toronto, available to early career individual artists and collectives. This corridor gallery is located on the lower floor (basement) of the Etobicoke Civic Centre, below the main gallery which has been in existence since 1976. Gallery exhibitions are viewed both by dedicated visual arts enthusiasts and by visitors and employees of the Etobicoke Civic Centre, providing an opportunity for artists to reach a wide community. Hanging space allows for 20 to 30 works (no 3D options), depending on the size of artworks.
**Schedule
**There are four exhibitions a year, each running 9 to 12 weeks in length. Artwork drop-off is on Mondays or Tuesdays at 9 a.m. Receptions are held on Wednesday evenings from 6 to 8 p.m. or on Saturday afternoons from 2 to 4 p.m. De-installations are scheduled for Fridays at 10 a.m. or 2 p.m. Gallery hours are weekdays from 8 a.m. to 6p.m. and on Saturdays from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Elevator access to the gallery is only available on weekdays from 8:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. The gallery is closed on Sundays and statutory holidays unless otherwise noted.
