Creative Body Institute and AADK Spain are now calling for applications from artists and artist-researchers working with duration in significant and evocative ways for a residency ON DURATION.
ON DURATION was conceived and founded by performance artist and scholar Dr. Raegan Truax as a platform that supports artists to engage in creative research and site responsive public praxis. Now in its third year taking over AADK’s living and studio spaces, the ON DURATION residency brings together a curated intergenerational and international group of artists who each work with duration in radically different ways.
Artists can apply to participate in the residency for one month or a two-month period during the months of July, August & September (starting dates are always on the 1st of each month).
What we are looking for
During the residency period, the focus will be on your creative and artistic growth. You are invited to work site responsively in nature, surrounded by rocky mountains, the Segura River, and citrus orchards. You will have access to several studio spaces housed in the belly of a mountain where you can intensify explorations of time, space, body and environment. The unique location of AADK Spain and collaboration with Dr. Truax also invites deepening your praxis relative to: body materiality and sustainability/ endurance, aesthetics and politics, territory and temporality, interspecies ecologies, speculative time, ecosomatics, and site-responsive artistic research.
We are particularly interested in receiving applications from artists who:
Work with duration as a primary material
Will beneܪt from and contribute to a praxis-based residency among other durational artists
Resonate with the unique spatiotemporal landscapes of our location
Already understand durational work in relation to unmaking oppressive systems and structures / or who want to further push and develop this aspect of their durational praxis
Remain curious and open to discovering new aspects of their work
