The City of Ottawa Public Art Program invites professional artists or artist teams to submit qualifications for the opportunity to be Vanier’s Artist-in-Residence. This community-led initiative is designed to foster meaningful engagement and dialogue with the Vanier community, and the insights gained will inform the creation of a final legacy artwork(s).
The community is looking for a reliable, collaborative and adaptable artist or artist team. This role will benefit from a candidate(s) with diverse community engagement experience, current or past ties to Vanier and the ability to fully communicate in both official languages.
After the residency, the artist or artist team will be asked to provide a proposal for a legacy artwork(s) and they will be provided with an additional budget and timeline to plan and implement this final legacy artwork(s).
This two-stage competition will be held in accordance with the Public Art Policy. This Request for Qualification provides information, details and submission requirements relating to the public art competition.
Vision
The selected artist(s) will participate in existing programming in the Vanier community and establish new opportunities for community interaction and collaboration. As part of this residency, the artist should conduct historical research into the neighbourhood to gain a comprehensive understanding of its story.
The residency will lead to the proposal of a permanent legacy artwork(s) that will celebrate Vanier’s history and diversity, fostering community belonging.
Residency Duration: March 2027 to September 2027
Location: Vanier, Ottawa, Ontario, Canada
