The year-round residency program is the heartbeat of daily work at PACT Zollverein. Launched in 2002, it offers artists and cultural workers from around the world a space to develop artistic projects and productions.
In conjunction with the Stage, Platform, and Urban Space work areas, the artists' residence fosters an exchange between theoretical and practical work. At the end of the residency, there is the option of an internal showing, but this is not a requirement—the focus is on the process of artistic creation.
The residency is flexible: discussions, development, and rehearsals take place autonomously in the resident's own studio; the entire PACT infrastructure (rehearsal rooms, kitchen, Wi-Fi, etc.) is available to residents at any time as needed. PACT's online journal offers artists in residence the opportunity to document their current work processes and projects and make them accessible to the public.
Thanks to the support of the Ministry of Culture and Science of North Rhine-Westphalia, residents have also received a residency grant since 2010. Accommodation is provided, and travel expenses are covered.
