Young artists from Lower Saxony can apply for the SPRENGEL PRIZE with an artistic project and detailed information about their planned trip to a European country. The SPRENGEL PRIZE provides impetus for European art and cultural exchange. To strengthen the visual arts as a medium for European understanding, the SPRENGEL PRIZE is linked to the Lower Saxony in Europe travel grant.
The SPRENGEL PRIZE, first awarded in 1980 by art collector Bernhard Sprengel, honors visual artists with a connection to Lower Saxony who make an important contribution to contemporary art with their work. The award is presented every two years by the Lower Saxony Savings Banks Foundation together with the Lower Saxony Ministry of Science and Culture in cooperation with the Sprengel Museum Hannover.
A solo exhibition at the Sprengel Museum Hannover and a catalogue document the work of the prize winner and their stay abroad in Europe.
