Overview

GlogauAIR is an international artists’ residency based in Berlin (Germany), which has been providing a space for artistic coexistence since 2016. Due to the 2020 pandemic, it had to give up physical attendance and reinvent itself by creating the On-line Program, which enabled it to continue offering its services to artists from all over the world.

Until now, this virtual format has continued alongside with the On-site Residency in Berlin, as the On-line model remains in demand amongst artists from all disciplines, given that many of them are unable to travel to Berlin for various reasons; however, this enables them to develop their artistic practice, research and communication through weekly one-to-one curatorial tutorials, regular group meetings, occasional professional workshops and exchanges with art professionals, such as curators and galleries, based in Berlin. All of this is organised in accordance with each artist’s availability and time zone

 The On-line Program includes:

CURATORIAL SUPPORT: That means; Individual, weekly advice from an international curator, who provides guidance and support through in-person meetings, video calls or telephone calls, broadening the creative experience and opening up new professional horizons in the art field.

GROUP MEETINGS there will be weekly group meetings with your residency group and curator

PROGRAM EVENTS: throughout the Program quarter, a range of workshops are organised, such as ‘arts marketing tools’ and ‘how to create your own portfolio and CV’.

EXTERNAL CURATOR: A professional from Berlin (a curator, gallery representative or cultural manager) is invited via videoconference to hold a one-to-one meeting with each artist to evaluate their work, offering constructive critical feedback that will help the artist to view their work from a different perspective.

CATALOGUE: At the end of the Program, GlogauAIR prints a collective catalogue featuring the work of all participants; this publication will also be available on our website (link). Every artist is assigned a page with an explanatory text and another one with image of the artwork. Online artists will receive three printed copies by post.

SOCIAL MEDIA AND ART PLATFORMS: During the Program, GlogauAIR runs an ongoing digital campaign through the most popular social media and art platforms, showcasing the artists and promoting their work, both individually and as a group. GlogauAIR’s presence on Instagram is particularly significant, with over 20,000 followers; through the ‘Instagram takeover’, followers can take a look at the artistic practice and creative process of GlogauAIR’s artists.

[VIRTUAL] OPEN STUDIOS EXHIBITION: displaying each and every one of the artistic projects completed during the Program and reinterpreted virtually, together with any further details each artist considers necessary. The event provides global access to our Residence Program and offers artists the opportunity to share their work with their own network of contacts, regardless of their location.

MEMBERSHIP OF THE GLOGAUAIR COMMUNITY: All participants will be added to ‘GlogauAIR Community’ web archive((link), where everyone can view the artists’ profiles with documentation of their work.  The artists can update their profiles and even share them free of charge, as if it were their own website. GlogauAIR also keeps the entire community informed about opportunities such as grants, awards and funding, as well as announcing important developments in the artists’ careers, such as the publicising their exhibitions.

ACCEPTANCE IN THE PROGRAM: The GlogauAIR On-line Program has been running for several years together with the wide experience gained from the On-site Programme, has enabled us to design a project suitable for all sorts of artists, welcoming applications from all over the world, from diverse backgrounds and artistic disciplines. Applications are evaluated by a rigorous and dedicated jury, composed for local and international art professionals.

MOBILITY: This is an online program in which the tutoring curators are flexible to suit the artists’ needs and can adapt to the time zones of different countries, allowing participants to take part from home, their studio, workshop, etc., regardless of where they are.

PROGRAM FEES: The price is 300 euros per month for a total of 3 months (900 euros in altogether) although some of our participants have managed to get very attractive grants, scholarships or institutional funding.

PROFILES: Candidates must be working artists from all disciplines who have already achieved a certain level of experience and are eager to work on a specific project, which will be presented at the end of the Program at the virtual Open Studios exhibition, supported by a strong digital marketing campaign
