NAME OF VENUE OR EVENT: Tettegouche State Park, Silver Bay, MN
WORK MEDIA: Only 2D work will be accepted unless it can be hung from a wall. All other media accepted. All submitted art work must have a “North Woods Aesthetic”. Contact the park if you need clarification on this.
WORK SIZE: Most of the gallery space is 48 inches high. A few works taller than that can be shown on side walls in the gallery space.
ENTRY REQUIREMENTS: Submissions must be emailed to kurt.mead@state.mn.us. Art shows at Tettegouche tend to be one-artist shows, so you must, ultimately, have enough work to fill our gallery space (email for more details on the amount of space).
SAMPLE REQUIREMENTS Submit six images of your work, via email. (Our jury panel likes submissions with some continuity between the pieces, as opposed to a smattering of different styles and media.) All images must be included as attachments and not in the body of the email. Each image should be under 1 MB in size, but large enough to look good on a computer monitor.
TIMELINE: Each show is one month in length. Shows will be scheduled after the artists are accepted.
ENTRIES DUE: January 31, 2023
SELECTION PROCESS: Our jury consists of three anonymous members. The submitted images will be viewed and voted on by the jury soon after the submission deadline and decisions are typically finalized within a month.
NOTIFICATION TO ARTIST: All artists will be notified via email after the jury process is complete.
ACCEPTED ARTWORK: Tettegouche uses the Walker Display System and all accepted and showed art work must be equipped with wire hangers. Saw-tooth hangers are acceptable on smaller pieces.
DELIVERY: All art work must be delivered on the day agreed upon ahead of the show. The artist will be on-site when the art is being hung.
RECEPTION: Tettegouche State Park Artist Receptions will occur on the first Friday of the scheduled month from 7 – 8:30 pm. Light refreshments will be provided by the Friends of Tettegouche State Park. The artist will be expected to give a short talk about their work, their path as an artist, etc. It’s really up to the artist.
EXHIBIT OR EVENT ENDS: Each selected artist will be scheduled for a one month show. Installation and removal dates and times will be negotiated with the Park ahead of time.
PICKUP ARTWORK BY: The art will need to be picked up in time (toward the end of the month) for the installation of the next show. This will be arranged between the artist and the Park.
PUBLICITY: Each show will be advertised on the Tettegouche State Park (MN Department of Natural Resources) Events Calendar. Additional notices will be sent out via social media and by flyers hung around the park and community. Additional advertisement efforts by the selected artist have been effective in the past.
SALES: Selected artists will be able to sell their pieces during the show but the pieces must remain hanging for the duration of the show (one month). Tettegouche takes no commissions so any sales will occur through communication between the artist and the buyer, but prices will only be available to those who ask for a price list at the Visitor Center and cannot be advertised on the title tag. Delivery of any sold art work will be arranged between the artist and the buyer and may only occur after the show is finished.
