This residency provides an opportunity for an artist to join the community of the Rhodes Trust for one year as a non residential intellectual exchange project culminating in an exhibition at Rhodes House.
The Rhodes Trust seeks artists committed to the values and vision of the Trust, with a practice rooted in social justice and/or addressing the most pressing issues in the world today. The artist will work collaboratively with the community for the duration of the residency. The residency will operate on an annual basis. Applications will be invited from the public biannually. In the intervening years the residency will be limited to applicants from the global Rhodes Scholar community.
Each year the applicants will be asked to submit proposals that respond to a theme. For the first year, the committee have decided the theme to be Radical Joy.
We intend this exciting new opportunity to be as open as possible to engage with a wide range of artists, architects, designers and makers at all stages of their careers, and to be understanding of their individual circumstances. Entrants may showcase paintings, sculpture, drawings, textile, prints or mixed media, digital prints and collaborative artworks, photography.
