Since 2017, Copenhagen Light Festival has brought light and life to one of the darkest and coldest months of the year. Each February, the festival invites visitors to explore Copenhagen in new ways; on foot, by bike, by public transport or by canal boat, through a curated program of temporary light works across the city and its suburbs.
**How the festival works
**Copenhagen Light Festival is a non-profit association. The festival’s core organisation and public program are supported by foundations, the City of Copenhagen and sponsors.
Most individual works are realised in collaboration with a local partner host — for example, neighbourhood associations, cultural institutions, urban renewal projects or commercial partners, who fully or partly finance a given work. Locations for light works will vary from year to year and depend on local partnerships, permissions and practical conditions. The final realisation of a selected work may depend on the availability of location and funding from a partner host.
What we’re looking for
We welcome proposals that unfold light as a versatile medium. We value ideas that are artistically strong, technically sound, and catch the interest of an audience of all ages. We encourage applicants from all backgrounds and professions. The festival can, in a limited capacity, offer technical guidance for chosen works.
