Overview

The Marion Ermer Foundation is committed to promoting art and culture in the areas of performing and visual arts as well as music in the federal states in the area of ​​the former GDR, with the exception of Berlin. The support is provided in particular through the awarding of art prizes. The Marion Ermer Prize has been awarded to young visual artists since 2001.

The exhibition for the Marion Ermer Prize 2025 will open on October 22, 2025 at the Museum of Fine Arts Leipzig.

The prize winners undertake to actively participate and support the exhibition in Leipzig associated with the award as well as the accompanying publication. They must also be present during the exhibition setup and dismantling and at the exhibition opening in the Museum of Fine Arts Leipzig.

The call for applications is aimed exclusively at young artists who have their primary or secondary residence in the federal states in the territory of the former GDR, but not in Berlin.

You must not be older than 35 years. You must have completed a degree or be in the final phase of a diploma or master's degree course. Your degree or the degree you are aiming for must have been awarded or be awarded in the foreseeable future by a state art college or a comparable training institution in the states in the territory of the former GDR, excluding Berlin.

Artists from all media of the visual arts (painting, printmaking, drawing, photography, sculpture, installation, media art, performance) can apply. The submitted works should not be older than two years.

Reward description:

In cooperation with the Marion Ermer Foundation and the Museum of Fine Arts Leipzig, four winners will be chosen in 2025. Each prize is worth €5,000 and includes a joint exhibition and an accompanying publication.

Application documents to be submitted:

  • fully completed and signed application form (see tender page),
  • CV (education, awards, exhibitions)
  • Representation of the artistic work through clear text and image documentation. These can depict all types of media (painting, printmaking, drawing, photography, sculpture, installation, media art, performance).

For analog submissions, artistic works must be submitted exclusively as reproductions. A maximum of three catalogues or portfolios should be submitted. Data storage devices must be submitted exclusively as USB Type A or USB Type C.

All analogue submissions must be accompanied by an addressed and sufficiently stamped envelope. The applicant assumes the transport risk.
