We are seeking an interdisciplinary artist to collaborate with our Intergenerational Community Arts Council (ICAC) to create community-centric work including but not limited to theater, dance, visual arts, mixed media, meaningful audience interaction and participatory experiences that commemorates our communities’ collective experiences and memories and promotes holistic wellness.
The ICAC has identified community engagement with the New York City Housing Authority residents in our neighborhood as a priority of the work emerging from the collaboration with the Artist In Residence. In an ever changing Brooklyn landscape, it’s important to bring awareness to the beauty in communities like NYCHA whose residents are often stigmatized; this collaboration aims at highlighting the talent, resiliency and creativity of silent giants that are too often red-taped in arts and media spaces.
The artist will work alongside the ICAC for the duration of 6 months. An initial introduction and planning meeting will take place in January 2025 in which the selected Artist in Residence (AIR) will share their work and previous projects with ICAC. Throughout the months of January – March, the AIR and ICAC will collaborate on project ideas and production. Public activations as a result of this project will take place in April – June.
