art in public space competition

The Cultural Department of the City of Munich/Public Art Munich invites participation in a public art competition. The aim is to select up to five artistic positions that will engage with Munich through performance as part of the Public Art Focus Year. These performances and/or excursions will take place in public spaces throughout Munich from May to the end of August 2026 and will be freely accessible to everyone.

“Public Art Focus Year – Excursions”

The Public Art Munich Focus Year 2026 puts art in Munich's public spaces in the spotlight for a year. Local and international artists will explore, through temporary art projects, how we communicate with our surroundings, how we interact with them, and how we ourselves become effective within them. As part of this Public Art Focus Year, up to five excursions, performances, and artistic walks through Munich's urban landscape will be offered. The aim is to rediscover public space in a peaceful way as a space where much is possible. Spaces that don't automatically bring people together—but can—and invite us to broaden our perspectives.
