Overview

The Somerville Arts Council (SAC) is looking for local Black, Indigenous, and People of Color (BIPOC) to help program and organize a temporary space. This initiative aims to provide a safe and vibrant space to be led by artists of color.

GOALS: We want this space to be used as a way for all of the community to connect with each other through the arts. The space is intended for artists of all ages and levels to find support and growth -- an encouraging, community- driven space.

We want this to be an accessible opportunity; therefore this space will feature new curators and concepts on a rotational basis. We invite you to think about how you would want to occupy this space. Some examples (use is not limited to the following): Exhibitions or a crafts market space, small lectures, workshops, meetings and etc. Due to neighbors and other competing uses of the building, this space is NOT available for performance, dance, music, or a rehearsal room.

Expectations: **This space and projects will be overseen by the SAC. Curators will collaborate with SAC staff. **Curators are required and expected to take full responsibility of their project and find help to fulfill their vision. ** This is a temporary opportunity. **All involved must agree to being flexible with timelines and schedules. **Curators and artists must respect and abide to the Armory and City building occupancy rules.

TIMELINE: Start ASAP, Space will be available until Mid-July with another opportunity in late 2022. There is no deadline to apply, we will review as we receive applications for a faster turn around. This means you should definitely apply sooner rather than later since the space is only available until July!
