asphalt art initiative

The current round of the Asphalt Art Initiative grant application is open to cities in Canada, Mexico, and the United States with populations of 50,000 or more. The deadline to apply is January 31, 2025. The program will award 10 cities grants of up to $100,000 each, as well as on-call technical assistance from the tactical urbanism firm Street Plans and impact evaluation support from Sam Schwartz Consulting. Winning cities are expected to be announced in spring 2025 for projects installing in 2025-26.

Previous Asphalt Art Initiative grant rounds awarded $25,000 per project. Building on the success of the 90 funded projects to date, this year’s grants will award up to $100,000 for large-scale projects that will make signature streets safer and more accessible, create dynamic new public spaces, or enact other similarly transformative roadway redesigns.
