Birk

Lavinia is a sculptural painting comprised of skins made from acrylic binder, urethane, ultralight, and branches built on a foam and wire armature attached to a canvas.

Discarded is a sister piece to Birk. I made a paint skin with yarn embedded in the paint. I also embedded wire into the paint skin to give me more control over how the piece hangs once mounted. Birk and Discarded are inspired by a grove of Birch trees in my front yard.

This piece is made of a very large paint skin that has been crumpled and adhered to a cradled panel. It was then painted to create further depth in the work.

I Glow Brighter When You're Not Here

A large paint skin with aged qualities manipulated into a square. She's trying so hard to stay within the confines of the square, but bits of her are spilling over the edge. There's a tension of wanting to just let go, but she can't bring herself to allow that.

Untitled Disruption

My first attempt at a sculptural painting, untitled is an exploration of materials.

This piece was my second attempt at making sculptural paintings made with paint skins and found materials. This piece is a collection of items that I found in my home. An egg separator, a plastic net lemon bag, plastic lemon slices, yarn from past crochet projects, glass pieces, and plants made from wire and acrylic paint.

Lemon Curd

Chrysalis is a hanging sculpture built from paint skins, found objects, urethane, ultralight, broken china, glass balls, amethyst, and an LED lighting system on a foam and wire armature. The lighting system is triggered to turn on when the viewer gets in range of a sensor. It lights up the interior of the piece that showcased an inside space covered in small pieces of amethyst and purple urethane with glass balls. Many viewers have said how it feels like they are peering into a body.

Chrysalis

Alice is a sculptural painting derived from skins made from an acrylic binder that is layered over a foam armature. Paint, ultralight, urethane, glass balls, quartz aggregate, and found materials are then built up on top of the skins. Medical tubing with an LED lighting system snakes it's way through the piece and is connected to a sensor that activates the lighting when the viewer approaches the work.
