Many posts are starting with the words "Due to" lately, as numerous exhibitions and events are being cancelled due to the spread of Corona virus. And because it´s a pity if projects are postponed and efforts left unfulfilled, we are building a fragmentary archive showing a selection of creative output.

Raum www provides a glimpse into works that can´t be shown in real life, forming a growing collection of "what-could-have-happened" or "sadly-postponed" shows.

Raum www is a nonprofit project started by Berlin based Daniel Hahn & Johannes Mundinger, artists with closed and postponed exhibitions.

A mural on the facade of the dormitory of Neulpureun School, an alternative school, directed towards the residents of the building. ’Shadow’, 12 x 12 m, the fully painted wall plays with the allegory of the cave by Plato. The other one, „Stage“, ca. 13,40 x 12 m talks about the common base that is filled with and by life.

Impressions of two exhibitions in Berlin and Belgrade, presenting paintings and dealing with the commercialisation of public space.

In Berlin, as in a lot of cities, more and more project spaces, centers for activism, places for alternative or social projects are closed down due to increasing rents or even get evicted by authorities, because shopping malls bring more money than diy projects.

The people of this places don´t dissappear, but the ideas loose their visibility, their physical appearance.

My autostereograms deal with this invisibility. Consisting of patterns built of tiles taken from such places, that, looked at in the right way, reveal places of activism that had been evicted.

For Berlin it was Brunnenstr. 183 and Liebigstraße 14, for Belgrade Miskaliste


Früher Besuch. Exhibitions in Belgrade and Berlin

I have been invited by UMI, Vilnius, as Artist in Residence, spending the month of October 2014 in Lithuania, in Vilnius´ old quarter Uzupis, painting walls and working on a solo exhibition at Galera Gallery.

The exhibition was all about observation. A hidden camera in the painted wall to the window captured the street - and thus the reactions of the visitors on the mural - and projected the image live on the back of the wall, inside the gallery.

Once inside the space the visitors could observe what was going on outside - or observe the other guests: The works shown were painted on mirrors, to either look at art or just pretending to do so and look at others ‑ or just oneself.

Ein Regenbogen zwischen den Stühlen

Zur Überschrift "Urban Art" habe ich Urban Mitbringsel mitgebracht:

Kleine Ausschnitte meiner Murals; Leinwände oder Bilderrahmen, die ich vor dem Malen einer Wand daran angebracht hatte, um sie anschließend in Kombination mit einer Fotografie der originalen Komplettwand zu präsentieren. Eingewoben in eine abstrahierte Stadtlandschaft.

Natürlich gabs aber nicht nur Arbeiten von mir, sondern auch spannende Skulpturen von Biserama, photorealismus aus der Dose vom Züricher Disk, Malereien von Dome, dust, Index-Centric, David Lucco und  Tom Brane, eine dokumentarische Fotoarbeit (trainwriting) von Fabian Bielefeld, Stencils von Nest da Foe, sowie Illustratives des Freiburger Künstlers smy.
