"Shifting Tectonics", references our global climate dilemma. The issues we face seem to parallel the strength and intensity of earth's tectonic plate movement. Science has long predicted the increase in weather extremes, are the direct result of climate change. The rise in global temperatures have been responsible for changing rain and snow patterns. The result more frequent and intense wildfires, melting glacial ice, and population decline of many plant and animal species, including butterflies on every continent.

Oh, so very un-lucky! This painting was in response to the first-time scientists added bumble bees to the endangered species list. White faced bees on the Hawaiian Islands are vital to the pollination of the pineapple plant. Due to their steep and steady decline in population numbers, seven species began to alarm scientists and farmers.  As of now, seven species of white faced bees are officially endangered.

Over the last decade their habitats and populations have been in steep decline across the globe. They help to maintain healthy ecosystems, essential for plant reproduction, and genetic diversity in the plants they pollinate.

Humming Birds Buzz By

I was encouraged after researching solutions to climate change. There is are new and innovative techniques science and conservationists are using to repopulate bleached and damaged reefs. "Planting Coral" was created in honor of one method, where small pieces of healthy coral are grown in nurseries. When ready they are planted on the reef where man-made trees hold the coral buds as they continue to grow.

The idea behind "Fire, Ice & Butterflies", references the increased weather extremes that are the direct result of climate change. The rise in global temperatures have been responsible for changing rain and snow patterns. Creating more frequent and intense wildfires, melting glacial ice and the population decline of many butterfly species on every continent.

“Blue Sky & Parts Per Million” brings attention to the beautiful blue sky above, and how deceiving it can be to us. The air in that sky contains millions of invisible carbon and methane particles, that we breathe every day, posing health risks to humans, animals, plant life and most of all the earth’s temperature. Included in the painting's composition are recycled paper pieces, repurposing is just one small thing we can do as individuals to help our planet.
