This is a selction of pieces created over the last two years - a period of significant upheaval in my personal life, and one during which the world at large has also seemed less settled than at any other time whilst I have been alive and engaged in global affairs. What started out as an activity to pass the time and fulfill desire for a creative outlet whilst waiting for recording equipment to arrive in my new country of residence soon revealed itself as a useful method to express divergent ideas together in one place. In a formal sense most of these works are portraits, and whilst they may depict a limited number of figures, they aim to foreground the multiplicity of constitutive elements that a subject like a human being implies. As such, the images that comprise the surfaces of these works are chosen for their relevance to the material existence of the figures, as well as aesthetic reasons. Foremost in my mind when creating these pieces have been themes of technology, industry, surveillance, ecology, isolation, paranoia and the self.
