The Project "Where is Zuhause?" funded by Berliner Projektfonds Kulturelle Bildung, it started with the artist Helena Mancelos together with the filmmaker & art director Carlos Vin Lopes creating a series of workshops with 12 refugee children living in Berlin.
The objective of the workshops is to offer a platform for expression and connection for refugee children, and collect the material produced by them in response to a series of visual and narrative stimuli.

This was a way to let the children manifest their emotions, exploring visual paths ranging from figurative representation to more abstract drawings. Subsequently, visual artists  connect each one of these visual expressions with a feeling, by writing down notes, some in the form of small paragraphs, others as single words.

In a secondary phase, the art directors Carlos Vin Lopes together with valerio Nicoletti reconverted these notes into visual compositions. Most of these pages are the result of a handmade process, using natural elements such as leaves, seeds, fruit and vegetables, wood, cotton, soil and mixing them with other “domestic” tools, such as fabrics, paper and cardboard scraps, shoelaces, cotton swabs, playdough, chalks.


The visual content of this project is organized into four sections, representing our attempt to connect with the children’s experience: the departure from their countries (journey), the welcome in Germany (arrival), the integration into this new reality (adaption) and the next steps (future).

 

We hope that this small project can help us navigate this process together and cast a colourful light on our common tomorrow, by continuing to look into each other’s shoes. 

Where is Zuhause? - Art project with refugee kids in Berlin

Aude Langlois is a French musician and composer based in Berlin. Having gained experiences in sound art, experimental band set up and theatre sound design. Aude Langlois now presents her musical poetic project, where her voice is the main carrier of her musicality and expression.Her daily life oscillates between English and German but her most intimate language of expression remains French where she can express feelings through the meaning and the sound of the words of her mother tongue. Directed by Carlos Vin Lopes, the video follows the first acoustic guitar flourish of ‘Olympic Girls’ ushering the potent words of Tiny Ruins’ Hollie Fullbrook – “Stirring, shaken, all of us waking." The track is buoyant with a rolling energy. "Another day bolder / A love spell rushes you by.” Cascading electric guitars counterpoint with a razor-sharp post-punk edge as the drums and bass stampede along, Fullbrook urging an exhilarating shake-up of the status quo – as the chorus dictates, “We were only inches away / still have a long, long way to go.”

The EP is recorded and partly produced together with bandmate Romain Rossi. The writing of the songs  Whereas that was recorded in three short weeks, the new album was made over a drawn-out period of spontaneity and experimentation spanning a year, stridently reaching beyond Fullbrook’s formerly minimalist domain. Promesses will be self released digitally on August 28st, 2020.

"Art exist because life is not enough"

Can you picture life without the act of feeling, creating, imagining? Since the dawn of humanity, we aim to fill the gap of an empty life through the use of our senses, thoughts, words and tools.

Even in our most prosaic actions, we accept the underlying truth that life is not enough. We need to create moments with simple elements and things around us, in order to be able to fill - and feel - life. 
"Life is not enough" aims to be a simple testament of a framed moment in our lives. Like in a movie, we are the actors and co-authors of these frames, minimum expression of our desire to feel and simply be. 

I have been creating a series of videos with the collaboration of several artists, showing the ability of art to fill the moments of our lives. 
Showing the process of each one isolated in their homes, creating, living, surviving.

Together with that I created a series of posters playing with these artists made by expired films, as if they were the main characters of an independent movie.

Life is not Enough

The Emperor Three and the Journey of the Key is a fantasy book I wrote and I have been developing to be an interactive project to help in the process of learning languages with someone in distance.

The project "11 to 11 - to learn a language you need a friend" is an app that connects people with each other who share a common goal: to learn the native languance of each other.
The main purpose is to enable two people to connect with each other in distance while facilitating and guiding them in their language learning process. In order to achieve this, the platform combines multiple tools that use different aspects of gamification


In the app, two people from different backgrounds engage in a daily challenge with each other. Every day before 11am each of the participants must send a word to their partner - the „word of the day“. The partner on the other side, must then create a sentence with this word, record an audio with it and send it to the other person until 11pm. So from 11 to 11 it’s "challenge time“.

In Blind Data two strangers get blindfolded in an experiment and fall into deep, but threatened love.

Synopsis

Blind Man and Woman signed a contract that grants them a high sum of money. In return they have to follow all the rules of the scientists. The relationship between the blindfolded turns into something deep and beautiful, but can their love withstand the manipulation of the scientists scary objectives? The film is a real experiment.

"Strawberry Jam" is the third movie of a trilogy.

Mily in a contemplative moment, admiring the process of Vinzent in silence eating his breakfast, asks: “Are you able to fill my silence?”. The answer of the question begins with another question - “With words?”. Strawberry Jam is a movie about a beautiful exchange of ideas between the value of the silence and the value of the word.

The Memory is an editing room, we remember our past all the time from various possibilities and needs, we remember something, because we don’t want to forget, we remember something to understand who we are today and where we are going. The sense of normality of each person is based on what is stored in memory as a reference.

The film “Sweet Water of Memory “ discusses the value of memory and its power to construct a personality. The character called Leon Nepomuk, he is a German who considers his memory to be a place to control his feelings. His recollections are based on the smells that he has experienced in the course of his life, and the people around him question his normality.

Smile, Mirror is a movie about four women inside a room - "The Girl With The
Beautiful Voice", "The Girl Who Is Braiding Her Hair", "The Girl Lying In Bed" and
"The Girl With The Moist Eyes" and the question of the expectation of the pain, what
we expect and what others expect of our pain.

The movie was accepted to the Cannes Festival 2014.

The screenplay was nominated to the European Independent Film Festival in the
category of best short film screenplay.
