Since moving to Atlanta in 2021, I have been impressed over and over by the amount of greenery in this urban environment. Much of my artwork is derived from the flowers that I observe right here in the city. This is the inspiration for my 2023 Series, City Greens: A Study on Canvas. This piece depicts a lovely cluster of Cosmos flowers on a crosswalk corner in the Old Fourth Ward Neighborhood of Atlanta. This piece comes framed with a handcrafted wood floater frame.

Having moved 19 times across 6 cities and 4 countries in my 28 years, doors have always had a profound impact on my sense of psychological security. Whether they were thin, light, had large gaps, had no latch, or were located in different parts of the world, I found myself thinking about the doors that every space inevitably has - always in danger of being opened. The movement and flow between spaces and bodies that the direction of the door opening and closing creates, the distinction it creates between inside and outside, the bodies that occupy or float in and out of it, the psychological give and take that comes with it - the door being knocked, locked, opened, held, or any other nuance that occurs.

Pressures

Categorization of an individual lays in the base of people's communications, and, to my opinion, substantially reduces possible useful outcomes of such communications. Whenever meeting a new person, we start from identifying whether this is man or woman, nationality, profession, possible social status, income, age, number of kids etc. By the moment we collect all those tips we rare bother to ask what this person really interested doing and thinking.

Statement: 
A portrait that shows a human figure from the back, where’s the traditional and realistic composition is tearing apart, originating fragments. Those are spreading little pieces of the person across the space. I took inspiration from a biological process called ecdise, and this metaphors serves to suggest that sometimes we might be inflexible, that we have built our identity like a cocoon that now is hard, and it needs to be broken in order to achieve a healthier state of being. The profile of the face show us that a regenerating process has begun, what introduce the idea of a new cycle. I have chosen not putting the figure on the center to enhance the transformative action. The decentralization had the purpose of deconstructe the pedestal that a center symbolizes in a portrait.

The Rose

FLUID IDENTITIES is a design intervention that manifests in the form of a DIY-service Fluid Mask and a public initiative. Together, this work invites people to engage with the mask as a mass-produced symbol and a site for individualized customization and performance. This initiative interrogates the centralization and interconnectedness of surveillance capitalism as well as contemporary identity overload, all the while recognizing fluidity to be a presumed agentic human condition and a widely-acceptable social factor.

  
As the main artifact, the Fluid Mask is a physical interactive face interface that contains 1 window and 2 displays to give people agency altering between representations of identities. Directly confronting society’s entry points, it first looks at identity's context-specific fluid legibility that reduces the whole set of personal identification data into the partial and only presents these parts as necessary and sufficient within themselves. Apart from that, it also mediates the larger ontological concept of fluidity as a vessel into daily interactions by isolating out the respective “identity signals”, using self-expressions to confront the utilitarian sense of identification.

  
Along with the mask, the Fluid-Identities Initiative also proposes a Manifesto that states the following - In a society where biopolitics deprives individuals of the inherent right to identity’s self-autonomy and where people are punished for not seeking enhancements, the intervention of fluid identities breaks the widely presumed normalizations by deconstructing labels and dichotomies. Above all, it recognizes identities to be fragmented yet authentic, and incomplete but sufficient.

I was drawn by this little boy in a candid photo of an African dance class and decided to center him--detached from his context there's something so compelling about his focus, effort, and posture--he's looking forward, he's bending back, he's peaceful, he's completely engaged, he's at right angles, he's upright, he's bendy...who is he?

Bend

Vivid dreams and spiritual experiences hold an important role on the artist's work, especially for this piece, Diamonds & Rust. The work visually represents Amadi's personal experience and communication with a form of her mother's afterlife. There is a spiritual relationship between mother and adopted daughter that is connected within the body of this piece. From reminiscing over her many memories at the Jewish synagogue with her family, Amadi incorporates the Mourner's Kaddish in this work. The Mourner's Kaddish is a prayer recited in Judaism to mourn the loss of dead loved ones and to mark the anniversary of their deaths. This woven image was created to honor the 5th year anniversary of her mother's passing.

Cara Bravo 

The truck jostles and my mother’s dog, Jake, climbs over her shoulder – sniffing the air to check perimeters. She chose him earlier that year because he had her younger brother’s eyes; Even though Uncle Sonny passed 12 years ago, I can see the resemblance. My dad pulls into a gas station before our drive southeast to Corpus Christi. I take the opportunity to stretch my legs, passing a young man quietly strumming his guitar. A long sleek dog, who seemingly just had a litter of puppies, was his audience of one. After delivering bottled waters to the back seat, I return with a camera and friendly handshake– His hand were calloused and oil stained, with a gentle grip that matched my own. I remark on the dog’s beauty and if he would like their portrait; “A” looks down with a caring smile as he said, “Sure. She’s not my dog– we just sort of found each other”.
