The “Future Monument Series” "How might we imagine a future monument or the idea of a monument?” For me, the monument of the future does not uphold existing structures. It is neither dominating, oppressive, predetermined, nor physically definable. Instead, it is light, space, movement -- expanding our perception to open our imagination to other futures. I construct the works through a meditative method. They are painted over transparently primed linen that seeps through the translucent layering of paint into the illusionistic weightlessness of the abstracted forms. The paintings are made using basic tools, paper tape, and pencils. The glazing layers are built up through many watery applications of high pigment acrylic. A prominent part of my work is using color aiming to affect the perception of the viewer. In the work, a complex organisation of form and structure comes into play to guide the viewer in relationships offered through illuminated hues and fleeting perspectives of aerial compositions. Are they thresholds? Portals? Space and weightless architecture remain present in the imaginative universe of the viewer.
