A symbolic personal summary of the year 2020. In this multi-figure painting which spans over two canvases I instinctively build a narrative around world politics, power dynamics within society and feminism though primary imagery and secondary sources. These figurative and symbolic images are collaged together to create a base from which I paint. The constellation of characters and their surroundings suggest a surreal dreamworld full of tension that invite the viewer to sit down, and enter this new larger than life realm. Roter Teppich is an invitation to daydream, fantasize, deep dive and reflect.

Akt I was created in conjunction with „Schmeckt dir Nicht“ as an raw response to the emotions I speak of in that work. Here the notions of hiding and revealing different layers of oneself are capture within the posture I have taken. I see these exposed and covered areas of skin as symbolic shades of identity I am choosing to display (and not display). My posture suggests that I was caught in motion either moving up or down: up as in „standing up“, down as in „falling down“. 

Akt I 

This painting captures the essence of feelings I was experiencing during the beginning of lockdown. Being alone with myself and body as a womxn during these times I confronted long buried experiences I had forgotten in the past and asked myself what it means to me to be a womxn in the year 2020. The painting speaks about my relationship with violence against womxn and shows the powerful position of female energy I aim to exhale. A female warrior - adaptable and unbreakable - the powerhouse of life.
