The inspiration behind this unique artwork stems from an original photography series that tells the story of a ghostly skeleton who once inhabited the vicinity of an abandoned slaughterhouse in my hometown in Virginia.

Ghost Girl Lost in the Woods

This piece commemorates both the artist's mother and grandfather. The original photograph represented in this work was captured by her grandfather. This image is a portrait of Amadi's mother at the age of about 16 or 17, and is the muse for the entire piece. The overall color story is reflected directly from the original photograph, using physical features of her mother, such as skin tone, hair color, and eye color. Amadi invites the concepts of remembrance and healing, along with her ideas of pixelated memory in this woven image. With the use of transparency film and color brings a ghostly presence to the work. This piece was created to honor the 5th year anniversary of her mother's passing, while also keeping the existence of her mother's innocence remembered.

Forever Young 

Vivid dreams and spiritual experiences hold an important role on the artist's work, especially for this piece, Diamonds & Rust. The work visually represents Amadi's personal experience and communication with a form of her mother's afterlife. There is a spiritual relationship between mother and adopted daughter that is connected within the body of this piece. From reminiscing over her many memories at the Jewish synagogue with her family, Amadi incorporates the Mourner's Kaddish in this work. The Mourner's Kaddish is a prayer recited in Judaism to mourn the loss of dead loved ones and to mark the anniversary of their deaths. This woven image was created to honor the 5th year anniversary of her mother's passing.

Diamonds & Rust 

This handwoven yardage celebrates the artist's childhood memories of past Valentine's seasons. She wove a pattern design called "vintage rose" along with colors of blush and electric blue to abstractly signify the bond between her and her mother. The structure of patterns never fades, they remain interwoven with each other permanently. The textile projects the artist's desire to pass on feelings of love and admiration. Share this unique woven with your loved one, mother, daughter, husband, wife, friend, girlfriend, or partner while enjoying their presence.

Vintage Ashes 

The artist created a wall piece with her mother as her inspiration as well as a field of lavender she photographed underneath Half Dome in Yosemite. While using both her hands and feet to weave, Amadi imagined a place of pure tranquillity she and her mother would’ve enjoyed together. With weaving and practices of mindfulness her mother had taught her, she fantasized a romantic scene of a mixture of her childhood memories and abstract shapes. To imagine this fantasy, Amadi focused her mind on the woven pattern sequence for the cloth, and textures of the yarns, and practiced explorations of two colors along with their tonal qualities. In this color exploration, she wanted to create a marriage of the beauty of purple from the lavender flower with the symbolic color for pancreatic cancer. The artist imagines this work as a landscape that brings her pure bliss in remembrance of her mother by her side.

Lavender Fields Forever

This piece is a series of images originally captured on a film camera. It is a ghost girl setting inside an abandoned prison and Slaughter house at the Lorton Prison located in Virginia. The original photos were re-printed onto transparent film in addition to a found X-ray slide.
  
  
The work represents my overall experience from battling with depression in the past. It also stands a representation of freeing the past but also settling as a reminder of its existence.

Ghost Girl of Despession 

This work is made with cotton, wool, jute, embroidery floss, and transparent film of ink printed of the artist's ancestry and genetic compositions including biological traits. Along with sections of her birth certificate woven at the top and bottom of the weaving.

  
Colors are referenced from Eeyore and herself intertwined with a hint of Winnie-the-Pooh.

Amadi Greenstein 

This work stands as a representation of the artist's childhood home in Lorton, Virginia, which unfortunately no longer exists. The piece translates her last goodbye to this home primarily through the patterns, colors, and textures embedded in the work. Beyond mourning the loss of her home and the decay of her memories within this sacred space, there is also a creation of life that is celebrated. This is communicated through the idea of pixelated memory and transitional uses of color. The color story for this work is reflected from the inspiration of Claude Monet's Woman with a Parasol from 1875 and E.H. Shepard's cover illustration for The House at Pooh Corner from 1970, which both held significant meaning to Amadi's childhood upbringing. She used these colors to tell the narrative of passed time from childhood to adulthood, innocence to wisdom, and from exchanged wisdom to the end of a life she and her mother shared.

Ghost Home of Childhood 

In this art piece the artist was thinking conceptually about the decay of the body and bones. The physical movements and actions of weaving reminds her about parts of her own body and the ways in which it's been challenged and changed overtime. The transparency of the found X-ray woven inside the piece, exposes what is inside of us. Showing the texture of bone, fractures, and embedded scars created from past injuries. The X-ray is a tangible representation from the memory of pain and nerves our bodies uphold. It presents only one part of the multitude of pieces inside of us that make the human physically whole. A single touch to the body can tigger a memory of an injury and has the ability to evoke emotions from that specific moment. Similar to injuries and fractures, the emotional pain from memories have the ability to successfully heal on its own.

Metatarsal Foot 

In this artwork the artist was thinking conceptually about the form of the body in terms of the difference of shapes and sizes. The movements, flexibility, and erosion through years of aging. The physical stages and actions of weaving reminds her about parts of her own body and the ways they are challenged and changed over time. In addition to those concepts, this work focuses on the artist's expression of color and texture. Amadi used an unusual yet vibrant range of colors against black to express the visual contrast of dark and light that represent qualities inside and outside of our own bodies. In combination with these colors she used holographic thread to experiment the ways in which light reflects from a material and how it blends its self with other textures of yarns. The holographic thread is meant to represent the nerve endings that are intertwined inside of every living thing.
