
"Sol y Luna" was part of the exhibition Form/Function be One at Sirin gallery Copenhague.
This work represents the existence of cycles in life, cycles formed by the interplay of complementary opposites, mutually constituted and moving spirally. “El Sol“, denoted as masculine in the Spanish language and “La Luna“, denoted as feminine, also imply other interdependent opposites in life flowing harmoniously such as day and night, North and South, Summer and Winter.

Circular, Alejandro Urrutia’s second solo exhibition NAC Gallery, brings together a series of pieces created after 3 years abroad. The exhibition proposes a cross between architecture and sculpture; in which circular, curved, concave and convex shapes generate cycles, wave movements formed by ridges and depressions that activate forces to create equilibrium.
Transition, movement, and return to the beginning, to start again; circular is inspired by natural cycles as perpetual movements in nature with ever changing effect: planetary orbits, day and night, sea waves, the seasons of the year, sunrise and sunset, and life itself that is renewed. Overlapping cycles and regularities, perpetual movements in constant transformation. Circular proposes an invitation to change, and to movement, to interpret the rhythm of mutations and to forge new alliances that avoid stagnation.

"Balance" deepens and explores the Materia. The steel sheets become the center of the investigation, a basic and essential element present on my baggage as an architect, that becomes the starting point for the development of pieces that share a language in common; the equilibrium.

In a global context of change and uncertainty, this exhibition takes place at the end of a cycle. After 3 and a half years living abroad, with exhibitions in Chile, Croatia, Germany and Denmark, Alejandro Urrutia presents at SIRIN Gallery a collection of pieces inspired by natural cycles.  Urrutia ́s latest works examine the concepts of eternal processes that in their constant transformation create their own equilibrium.

Urrutia’s previous architectural practice informs his creative mind to produce sculptures that freeze movement in time, forever unfolding, but always static in seemingly impossible forms.

The suggestion of a movement and the rhythm is running through Urrutia’s art, flowing with effortless natural motion. It seems at odds with the rigid steel and bronze materials used, but as the viewer is drawn in by the reflective surfaces and sensual curves, a balance can be found.

As night follows day, as life follows death, by their cyclical nature a rhythm emerges, but in order for cycles to complete, they must remain locked in a constant repetition.

The end is the beginning is the end.
